"From the Country Music Capital of the Potomac Highlands", the Historic Country Store Opry continues into their 43rd year of music. Singers and musicians come from a diverse variety of locations and occupations. Wendell Nelson, formerly of Baltimore, leads the opry show with his vocals and is a great master of ceremonies. Wendell is retired from General Motors and now lives in Franklin, WV. Playing harmonica for the opry is Grey Cassell of Brandywine,WV. Mr. Cassell was the former superintendent of Hampshire County schools in the 70's. Carolyn Simmons is one of the many singers to grace the stage doing classic country hits, sings backup harmony and plays rythmn guitar. Carolyn is in charge of inventory control Pendleton Manor in Franklin, WV. Tammy Western, from Petersburg, WV., plays the piano for the group and does many Patsy Cline hits familiar to fans. Harold Cupp plays bass for the opry and lives in Mount Crawford, VA. He brings many years of music experience to the stage. Harold is retired from Ethan Allan of Bridgewater, VA. The Opry performs in three venues. Petersburg shows are at the Landes Performing Arts. Franklin shows are at the Pendleton Middle/High School auditorium. Romeny shows are at the Bottling Works.
